False Alerts occur when:
The camera thinks it detects a person, but there is no actual person for the camera to detect.
The camera thinks it detects a moving vehicle, but there is no actual moving vehicle for the camera to detect.
The original Duo cameras can be especially prone to false vehicle alerts, whereas the Duo 2, Duo 3, and other newer Reolink cameras are much improved.
The first thing to do is to review video clips from your camera. To do this, go to the live view from your camera and then select the "Playback" button. This will allow you to watch video clips for the current day. Select a date from the calendar to watch videos for a different day. In the video list, each clip is marked with one or more symbols to indicate what was detected (person, vehicle, etc.).
Based on a review of the video clips, look for the matching cause listed below to see the suggested solution. If you cannot determine what object has activated the camera, try turning on the Motion Mark feature which will highlight objects during Clear (High) resolution playback. Navigation: Settings, Detection Alarm, Motion Mark.
If the listed solutions do not work or are not available in your camera settings, try updating the firmware for your camera.
Spider webs or other debris obscuring the view of the camera.
Gently clean the glass cover protecting the camera lens.
If spider webs are a frequent issue, try turning off the infrared lights (which attract spiders).
Navigation: Settings, Light, Infrared Lights, Stay Off.
Note - When the infrared lights are turned off, it is usually beneficial to also set the camera to always color mode.
Navigation: Settings, Display, Day and Night, Color.
Note - When the always color mode is used and the area is dark at night, it may be beneficial to set the spotlight / floodlight to Timer Mode.
Navigation: Settings, Light, Spotlight, Modes, Timer Mode.
Yard decorations that look like the shape of a person or vehicle.
If practical, try making the area with the decorations a non-detection area.
Navigation: Settings, Detection Alarm, Non-Detection Zone
Or, increase the alarm delay for detecting.
Navigation: Settings, Detection Alarm, Alarm Delay, increase Person or Vehicle 1 second (do not go higher than 2).
Or, decrease overall sensitivity 5 points. It is OK to go as low as 1.
Navigation: Settings, Detection Alarm, Sensitivity, Motion Detection
Flags that are blowing in the wind (especially ones that partially obscure the view of a parked vehicle).
Increase the alarm delay for detecting.
Navigation: Settings, Detection Alarm, Alarm Delay, increase Person or Vehicle 1 second (do not go higher than 2).
Or, reduce the sensitivity settings using one of these options:
Decrease overall sensitivity 5 points. It is OK to go as low as 1.
Navigation: Settings, Detection Alarm, Sensitivity, Motion Detection
Navigation: Settings, Detection Alarm, Sensitivity, Smart Detection, decrease Person or Vehicle 5 points. Do not go lower than 50 for Person or lower than 30 for Vehicle.
Strong / gusting wind.
If practical, trim back the bush, ivy, or tree that is causing the issue.
Or, it may be the camera is not securely mounted and the wind is causing the camera to move which can make the camera think that objects are moving. If so, mount the camera more securely.
If the problem still occurs frequently, try the suggested listed for "Flags that are blowing in the wind".
Heavy rain or snow.
This issue is resolved when the precipitation is reduced or stops, so there is typically no need to make any changes. But if this occurs too often, try the suggested listed for "Flags that are blowing in the wind".
Flashing or blinking lights.
If practical, try making the area with the flashing / blinking light a non-detection area.
Navigation: Settings, Detection Alarm, Non-Detection Zone
Or, increase the alarm delay for detecting.
Navigation: Settings, Detection Alarm, Alarm Delay, increase Person or Vehicle 1 second (do not go higher than 2).
